Pentecost

The Feast of Pentecost falls on 23 May 2010. Members of the 10.30 am Sunday congregation are encouraged to wear national dress if they have it and come prepared to pray the Lord's prayer in their own language.

Ascension Day

The Rt Rev Gregor Duncan will be the celebrant at the Ascension Day Eucharist in St Mary’s. This will take place on 13 May 2010 at 7.30 pm. This service will be a Choral Mass sung by St Mary’s Cathedral Choir.

Repairs

From 6 April for about 10 days, there is repair work being carried out in St Mary’s. Weekday services will continue but may be relocated within the building. During this period the west doors will remain closed, and access to the services on Sunday 11th April will be via the South doors. Update: Access will again be via the South doors on Sunday 18th April.

Lent Devotions

Special Lent Devotions take place on Friday evenings in St Mary’s at 6.30 pm. Most weeks the format is Eucharist, Meditation and Compline. On 19 March there will be Choral Evensong for St Joseph.

Ash Wednesday

The services on Ash Wednesday will be at 1230 pm and 7.30 pm. The evening service will be a Choral Eucharist and the setting is Byrd’s Four Part Mass.

Candlemas

The Feast of Candlemas will be celebrated with a Eucharist at 0930 on 2 February. The readings and music at Evensong at 6.30 pm on 31 March will also reflect Candlemastide.

Our Revolting Past

The early history of this congregation has been kept pretty vague for more than two centuries. Roger Edwards has been trawling through early records, and will explain his unexpected findings at a social evening in the Synod Hall on Saturday 30th January at 7.30 pm.

New Year Service
